2020 at UK theme parks

2020 is gearing up to be quite an exciting season for UK theme parks and in this blog I will be sharing my personal highlights.

Paultons Park

Paultons Park has slowly been becoming one of the top UK parks since the opening of Peppa Pig Land in 2011. The next new themed area is opening in 2020 and is called Tornado Springs. The location of the new area used to be a field with a few animal enclosures and is located next to Peppa Pig Land. The area contains four new rides and two rethemed ones. The highlight of the new area is Storm Chaser, a Mack spinning coaster, which will be the parks sixth coaster and potentially most thrilling. Other thrill attractions being added includes the Cyclonator, a gyro swing and the Windmill Towers, two family drop rides. The fourth new attraction is Al's Auto Academy which will be a driving school for the younger guests. The rethemed attractions include the former Wave Runner ride which is being renamed Buffalo Falls. Trekking Tractors will be moved into the area with some additional theming. The Rio Grande Train will also be rerouted through the area. There will also be a new gift shop, two new play areas as well as a new restaurant, all of which are themed. This has to be my most anticipated addition due to the scale of the area and Paulton's track record with themed areas! The area will be opening on the 19th of May.

Alton Towers

Alton Towers will be opening The World of David Walliams. This will be a retheme of the Cloud Cuckoo Land which opened in 2009 and has been slowly cut down since 2016. The area will have one new attraction and two rethemed attractions. The headline attraction is Gangsta Granny The Ride which will be located in the previous Wobble World building and will be a dark ride themed to Gangsta Granny. I am personally very excited for this as the park have had some very well themed additions recently such as Wickerman and The Dungeons and I am sure the park will carry on this and produce a great attraction. Gallopers Carousel is being rethemed to the Royal Carousel and Frog Hopper is being changed to Raj's Bouncy Bottom Burp. There will also be a new gift shop. Although I am excited for the area and especially Gangsta Granny The Ride, I am dissapointed they did not use the Ice Age 4D building or bring back Twirling Toadstools. I'm sure this area will be perfect for the resort and bridge the gap between CBeebies and the Big 7. There will also be David Walliams themed hotel rooms added to the resort. The area is scheduled to open in Spring.

Chessington World Of Adventures

Chessington are also opening a new themed area called Rainforest which will feature two rethemed rides and one new ride. The new attraction is River Rafts, which is a junior log flume which used to be located in Sealife Weymouth and should be a decently themed ride and be good for kids not tall enough for Tiger Rock. Toadies Crazy Cars will be rethemed to Jungle Rangers and have animals around the layout and Treetop Hoppers will be turned around to face the area with some new theming. Although not a major addition it is good for Chessington as they carry on there trend of retheming and refreshing parts of the park in order to remain one of the top parks in the country. The area will open in March. The park have also confirmed they will be getting a replacement for Black Bucaneer, which closed in 2018. It will be a new model and there is currently a competition to name the ride.

Flamingo Land

Flamingo Land already have one of the strongest coaster lineups in the United Kingdom and they are adding to it in 2020. They will be opening a ten inversion coaster, an updated version of Colossus at Thorpe Park, and will be located on the site of the old Corkscrew site next to Velocity. The coaster has a red and yellow colour scheme and the name has not been announced yet by the park. Not much marketing has taken place outside of their social media pages as there is nothing on the website meaning some guests may not know about the new coaster, hopefully this changes soon. This is a great addition to the park and I cannot wait to ride it sometime in the future and see how it compares to Colossus. The coaster has not had its opening date announced but I would not be surprised if it was in Spring due to the layout being almost finished already. (Photo Credit- Coaster Crazy).

Legoland Windsor

The park will be getting the Duplo Dino Coaster, the first new coaster they have received since 2004. It will be located in Duplo Valley, next to Raft Racers. It is a clone of the Ba-a-a Express at Europa Park in Germany and should fill the gap for a coaster for the very young children who don't want to ride Dragons Apprentice. The coaster was originally announced as the Duplo Dream Coaster but that name was changed, so we are not sure if that theming will also change as all the material released was to do with the dream variant of the ride. Although I am sure this ride is a good fit for the park I am a bit worried for the throughput as it will only be on one train. The coaster is expected to open in Spring.

Those are my five most anticipated additions for 2020 but that does not mean there are no others. Fantasy Island will be getting a new flat ride and Thorpe Park will also be getting something, but is unknown now as the park have been teasing.

Thank you for reading and I hope your 2020 season is full of rides!
