Tallest Rollercoasters In The UK
The UK has 188 rollercoasters as of 2019 and here is the 10 tallest according to the Rollercoaster Database.
1. The Big One (213ft)
Built in 1994 by Arrow Dynamics this coaster is one of the most iconic in the world and towers over the rest of Blackpool Pleasure Beach. It was the tallest in the world until 1997. The countries only traditional hyper offers high speed hills with not much airtime but a lot of thrills.
2. Stealth (205ft)
Stealth is the fastest rollercoaster in the country and is only 7 feet off the top spot in the UK. The Intamin launch coaster opened in 2006 at Thorpe Park and is part of the Amity themed area. The ride has lots of racetrack theming and is one of the best themed rides in the country. It is one of the most intense coasters in the country and is sure to give lots of thrills, especially at the front.
3. Odyssey (167ft)
Odyssey is a Vekoma suspended looping coaster at Fantasy Island in Skegness. It opened in 2002 and has the biggest loop in the country. The coaster towers above most of Fantasy Island and the market. The huge coaster has quite a rough experience and is not one of my favourites but definitely worth a ride.
4. Millenium (150ft)
Millennium is located right next to Odyssey in Fantasy Island and opened in 1999. The coaster is a Vekoma and is one of the smoothest Vekoma's in the world with lots of fun elements. The colour scheme is different, being purple and green, but I love it and think it looks great as it circles the park.
5. The Swarm (127ft)
The Swarm is a B&M wing coaster and was the first and only in Europe when it opened in 2012 at Thorpe Park. The grey coaster is one of the best in the country and provides a smooth yet intense experience making it one of the best in the country. The theming is also some of, if not the best, in the UK.
6. Shockwave (120ft)
The least talked about 1994 coaster Shockwave at Drayton Manor stands at an impressive 120 feet and is one of the biggest draws to the park for thrill seekers. The B&M stand up coaster is uncomfortable, especially for males, but offers a unique experience which is definitely one to be checked out.
7. Kumali (118ft)
Kumali is the second Vekoma suspended looping coaster on this list and is located in Flamingo Land. Opening in 2006 it is one of the better suspended looping coasters with a series of fun elements making this a great ride and one not to miss if at the park.
8. Wipeout (117ft)
Another Vekoma on the list, but this time a boomerang. The coaster has been operating since 1988, the coaster moved to Pleasurewood Hills in 2007 and is an icon of the park. Although these rides are popular around the world this is the only one in the country.
9. Speed: No Limits (115ft)
Speed: No Limits is the only coaster located on this list not in England, it is in Oakwood, Wales. The park opened in 2006 and is a Gerstlauer eurofighter and was the first in the country. The ride is very hit and miss with the front row being uncomfortable and the back row being much better. The colour scheme is great and is very eye catching.
10. Infusion (109ft)
Infusion is the third Vekoma suspended looping coaster on the list and is not well loved by enthusiasts. The coaster is located at Blackpool Pleasure Beach and opened in 2007 and is a generic layout which can be found in 26 other locations around the world. The best part of the ride for me is the location with the lake and water effects all located underneath.
